* The 7 mile stretch of water between the 101 and 199 is excellent fishing water. Deep holes are found here, holding both steelhead and salmon. There is a road along the south bank that turns off at the south end of the 101 bridge. Access to Early Hole and Walker Hole can be achieved from Walker Road off Highway 199.Traveling on 199 through the town of Hiouchi for about ½ mile, turn south on road that crosses "Slant Bridge". After crossing bridge there is a river access road to your right.
Whale Watching:
* Gray whales are best seen from an elevated spot close to the shore. Great spots to go to to best view the migrating whales are the Crescent Beach Overlook, Enderts Beach, Battery Point Lighthouse, and Point St. George. Instructions on how to get to all of these places can be obtained by our helpful staff. March, April and May are the best months to view the migrating whales through the crescent city area. Call and reserve ahead of time during these months!

* Located just south of the Best Western Northwoods Inn and is walking distance! This is a great spot to take the kids, it's sandy and safer to swim in. A lot of our local surfers like to use this beach too. This is a really good spot to take a long walk or hunt for sand dollars.
Point St. George (Tidepooling):
* This rocky outstretch of rock and beach is located north of Crescent City, not a very long drive at all. It comes highly recommended for tidepooling and exploring the rocky surface of our ever evolving coastline. Be sure to use the buddy system here, random rough waves and strong currents are known in this area. Check out the cool sea life! Simply ask our helpful staff how to get there!

It's a panoramic view of our town that is especially known as a great spot to view or photograph migrating whales, clouds as they wander over the ocean, and spectacular sunsets. * One favorite is Howland Hill going out to Stout Grove. All along the way there are signs stating the name of trails and the miles that they are. We cannot caution enough that you stick to marked trails, for they go through real forests with real wild animals, and safety is always first.
