district are available through the Amelia Island Museum of History. Try a narrated horse
drawn carriage ride with the Old Towne Carriage Company. Seahorse Stables is open daily

Island Adventure, Fernandina Charter Boat Association, Tradewinds Charter Fishing Party,

Batter Up batting cages, Island Falls Adventure Golf , tennis courts, and the Fernandina
Municipal Golf Course are waiting for the sport enthusiasts.
A Day at the Beach or at the Park on Amelia Island
The beaches are exceptional places to spend the day relaxing, shelling,
swimming or sunbathing. The beaches are white sandy stretches dotted with dunes. The sand
at Fernandina is dark and hard packed. The secondary ridge of sand dunes is lined with sea
oats and many salt resistant plants. Watch out for alligators, small birds and other wild
animals on the nature trail at Fort Clinch State Park.
Amelia Island Natural Attractions
On a warm spring evening you might come face to face with a giant loggerhead sea turtle.
Amelia Island is a haven for these creatures who are protected by the Endangered
Species Act. They come in the night during spring and early summer to lay their eggs. The
chance of survival for the hatchlings is around one in a thousand. It is important never
to interfere or disturb a turtle or her nest.
Amelia Island: a Shoppers Dream
The downtown streets of Fernandina Beach are overflowing with vintage shops and charming
boutiques. The Eight Flags Antique Mart is open daily. The Unusual shop
lives up to its name. Under a canopy of live oaks you will find the Palmetto Walk.
Fine antiques, exquisite silver frames and needlepoint pillows can be found at The
Plantation Shop. Personalities is a chic boutique for women. For Florida history visit the
Book Loft and baskets and crafts are in abundance at Southern Touch. Helen D'Agnese has a
variety of artist media, including bronze and limestone sculptures. Crafter can be seen
hard at work creating fine jewelry out of gold at Jeff Steel Jewelers.
Restaurants and Night Life on Amelia Island
Thee place to be on the island is Slider's Lounge, which features homegrown and visiting
bands. If disco is your thing go on Thursday nights.
Amelia Island Plantation offers villas with an ocean view and fine dining in the signature
dining room. The entire inn has a garden theme with terraces, verandahs, lounges and a
sports theme oceanfront restaurant. Ritz-Carlton hostelry is a luxurious beachfront resort
serving award winning cuisine.
The Sandbar is hidden and out of the way serving fresh seafood caught daily. Brett's
Waterway Cafe' offers indoor and outdoor dining. If you don't mind waiting in line to get
a table on the back porch try Snug Harbor. The dining possibilities are endless.
