About Miami
For over one hundred years, Miami has been the Sunshine State's crown jewel. Even in its
early years, Miami was known as "America's Sun Porch". And for good reason, situated on
the southern coast of Florida, Miami has much to offer. Located on 54 square miles in Dade
County, Miami is a sizable city. Bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, and on the
south by the world famous Florida Keys, Miami is an ideal vacation destination.
Miami's Tropical Climate
Spring, summer, fall, or winter Miami is warm year round. Summers are bright
and subtropical, with daytime temperatures averaging in the high 80s, and nights in the
mid 70s. The humidity in the summer months is high, and there are often afternoon rain
showers. The winters are mild and sunny with daytime temperatures in the 70 degree range,
evenings are pleasant and cool. With its fragrant tropical weather, and relaxing ocean
breezes, Miami offers endless fun for the travel enthusiast.
Miami's Cultural Mixture
But Miami is so much more. In recent years Miami has become home to people from all over
the region. With a population of over 3 million people, and the influence
of cultures from Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean, Miami has developed
a wonderful, international flare. You may want to visit "Little Havana" and get a taste of
Cuban cuisine. Or maybe you'd like to visit "Knaus Berry Farms" where you can sample
delectable, old German bakery specialties. The city has made great strides to be a safer
tourist destination, but as with any large city, use common sense and stay in designated
areas when exploring this fascinating city.
Downtown Miami has conveniently placed peach and green tourist markers that detail points
of interest in four languages. Take advantage of the Metromover, a part of Miamis
metrorail system, which will transport you around the city. Culturally, Miami is rich with
museums and historical sites, tropical gardens, and even an ancient Spanish Monastery.
Miami Sports Entertainment
For the sportsman in you, Miami has many outstanding golf courses, sports arenas, and
professional ball clubs. For the kids, you will find a wealth of water parks, zoos, and
aquariums. And don't forget the Everglades National Park where you can
see Florida in its original splendor. The park encompasses over 1.5 million acres and is
home to alligators, exotic birds, and tropical plant life.
So have an adventure sure to be enjoyed by the entire family, visit the greater Miami area
and take home a lifetime of memories!
